God Is Holding Back The Tide

My prayers truly go out to all the victims of this monumental tragedy.

This is a picture of a victim being removed from the sight of the deadliest massacre in United States school history at Virginia Tech this morning.

I am always quite perplexed when an event like this takes place. I seek in my heart and soul understanding from our savior why such a thing has taken place. The more I thought today the more my heart was filled with the message that I bring to you tonight. The text I was reminded of was:

Judges 17:6 -

The Message
"In those days there was no king in Israel. People did whatever they felt like doing."

New American Standard Bible
"In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes."

We now live in a day in age where there is no king on the thrones of our lives. We are a nation that has left the gospel of Jesus Christ for what we consider greener pastures of self-awareness and understanding. Today you have seen the fruits of such labors without God. This young man (whoever he is) that opened fire is not far removed from who each of us is as depraved human creatures. Each of us is capable of the same thing. God is the one who is holding back through his common grace the full effects of sin. Today we saw a brief glimpse of what evil is and it continues to shock us. The bottom line is this glimpse we saw today is what every human heart is capable of. I do not know why, but God is holding back sin. We must warn our culture before it is too late. Events like these should awaken our hearts for the need to share the only answer there is to such depravity. We must tell the world that redemption is available through Jesus Christ alone.

As you can see from the picture below, at Virginia Tech, people are going to want answers. They are not looking for some watered down Best Life Now theology. They are looking for the hard cold truth. I abhor you today, "Give em' the gospel." Make Jesus Christ the answer to all the questions that are going to be asked in the next couple of days.




As a nation is awoken to tragedy, may our mouths quench their desire for answers as they hear the gospel of the living God.
Tell them to hold fast, truly help is on the way...Godspeed!
