Blog From April 14 2007: Dishonoring the Body

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

This is a verse that our present day culture has just missed. They do not get it. Just turn on the TV or watch a movie and you will see how far off we actually are.

I saw this commercial the other day for a BOD fragrance. It was humorous how sexually explicit this commercial was. This commercial had a woman with a deep sexy raspy voice in the background proclaiming, "I have got to have my BOD." It was funny for a second, until I realized that people were actually buying this fragrance because of this commercial. There would be no other reason for them to make the commercial if it was effective. This shows you the place that the body has taken in our culture. It is nothing more than a piece of meat to look at and have fantasies about.

As Christians we must not have this attitude. We must realize that, by what we wear and how we behave, we are either bringing glory of discredit to the kingdom. Girls, when you go out with barely any clothing on, you are discrediting the kingdom of the living God. Guys, when all you care about is a girl's physical features, you are bringing discredit to the cross of Jesus Christ. When we are involved in a relationship that is too sexual then we are discrediting the kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Dishonoring our bodies and others bodies is a cancer growing on the church of the living God. We must honor God with our bodies. We must be the moral force standing against our culture saying, "I am not going to frequent any type of media or participate in any actions that dishonor the bodies that were given to us in order to glorify the living God." If dishonor to the body is a cancer that you are struggling with, then perhaps you need to undergo the chemotherapy of a closer relationship with Jesus Christ...Godspeed!
