A Tale of Two Martins

At the beginning of the Reformation, Martin of Basle came to knowledge of truth, but, afraid to make a public confession, he wrote on a leaf of parchment: “O merciful Christ, I know that I can be saved only by the merit of thy blood. Holy Jesus, I acknowledge thy sufferings for me. I love thee! I love thee!” Then he removed a stone from the wall of his chamber and hid it there. It was not discovered for more than one hundred years.

About the same time Martin Luther found the truth as it is in Christ. He said: “My Lord has confessed me before men; I will not shrink from confessing Him before kings.” The world knows what happened, and today it reveres the memory of Luther; but as for Martin of Basle, who cares about him?

The world today is begging for more Martin Luthers and not more Martin of Basles. Do you have the courage to stand for the gospel?

Luke 9:62
Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

Question:
What does Jesus ask form us?

Answer:
EVERYTHING….

The Lord seeks total dedication not halfhearted commitment. We cannot be picky on what we like about Jesus and what we don’t like about Jesus. We must follow the entire council of God. We must give him all we got. He gave you all He had on Calvary. We must be prepared to accept the grace of God, as well as the wrath of God.

In America we must realize the cost of following Jesus. We must count the cost, and decide if it is worth it to give God our everything. It is time to leave behind all worldly security, and find security in Jesus Christ alone.

Today is the day to give it all to Jesus. Don’t look back!…Godspeed!
