Jonah 3:10
10When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.
What is God calling you to today? So often we run from God's calling on our lives. We say "Lord I will do anything but that." Perhaps he might be calling you to reconcile with an old enemy. Perhaps he might be calling you to share the gospel with a coworker or classmate. Perhaps it is even bigger. Maybe God is calling you to the ministry and you are resisting his call. Maybe he is calling you to quite hanging out with that girl you have been hanging out with. Perhaps he is telling you to stop hanging out with the friends you've been bumming around with. All of these things happen all the time, and we resist the call of God.
As Christians we are obligated to obey the call of God, but we don't. Jonah was no different. He was called as a prophet to obey God, and he resisted. God wanted to use him for greatness, but he could not get over his selfish desires. We are the exact same way. We resist the call of God, and in turn say "no thank you" to the greatness of God.
God is calling you to something this day. Do not resist him. Do not deny the power of his hand to work.
Jonah ran away from God, but was given a second chance. Sometimes Satan tries to tell us that we are not worthy to participate in the work of God. This is not true. I am proud to say that we serve the God of a second chance. You might feel at times unworthy, but serving God is not a position that you earn. None of us qualifies for God's work, but thank God he still is in the business of using sinners to bring in the saints.
Jonah was called to preach about God in one of the largest and most animistic places on the planet. He was scared. Sometimes we are too. But we must not let social pressures and the fear of men dictate our lives. We are called to go farther and jump higher for God's message no matter what we think the consequences may be. Don't fear men who can kill the body, but fear the almighty God who can send the soul to hell. Don't stop working for King Jesus dear friend no matter what.
God forgave Nineveh, just as he forgave Jonah. God's judgment is for correction, not revenge or continual torment. God always stands ready to show compassion on anyone who is willing to turn to him. Today, whatever God has called you to, go after it with all your heart. We serve a God of miracles and abundance to those who seek him. Turn back to King Jesus...Godpseed!
